Anyone ever go from the stock modulator sleeve to the .427 or .500 sleeve? Just got a rebuild with a billet TC and shift kit, but still have a somewhat laggy shift at WOT, and want to know if a larger modulator sleeve will fix that. Thanks

it is best done in eec tuning. by installing a larger mod valve it will shift harder at all positions of the throttle

A .500 mod valve will shift HARD. I have a .427 in mine at the moment and it shifts good with the tuning that I have on it. But for the most part I would just adjust line pressure with the pcm.

You really don't want tire chirping shifts, unless you like being hard on parts for no reason at all. If the trans is working well, the shift will be a light tap at the most.

I know, I just said that because before my rebuild it would chirp tires from time to time. I noticed the somewhat laggy shift is 1-2, while all the other shifts including converter lockup is really quick.

.427 is perfect. Tuning can only do so much. I loved my Sonnax/Tricumulator kit that I ran in my truck. I am pretty sure it saved my old stocker from death.

I might try the tuning since I get free reburns, then I'll go from there. Have you guys heard of drilling 3 holes in the VB casting? Not the plate, but the accumulator body itself. A guy on another forum came up with the idea and I tried it on my truck and couldn't have asked for a better shift. Not to hard, but far from soft. But since my trans builder had never heard about it ever being done, he filled the holes with JB weld and added a shift kit when he did my rebuild.
