So I have here a sterling rear diff assembly from a super duty I got free, I would be using it in another project, definatly not for my OBS.

It was pulled from a heavily burn damaged truck, 1 rim is still melted onto the hub.

Obviously all bearings, seals races gaskets etc are toast...literaly, but are all the non-wear parts re-useable such as the housing, axles shafts, hubs, carrier, ring/pinion etc?

The pinion still rotates freely along with the hubs, as much as the burnt brakes will allow of course.

for the amount of work it is to repair, why not buy a good used one?

If the rim melted, I would have a hard time using those parts. The heat may have altered the parts and they may have become brittle. Truth is you will not know until you try them, I would pass on it personally.

Thanks guys. This diff has been sitting in my fathers yard for many years, just wanted to see if I should scrap it or let it stay there for a while till I could find a use for it. The heat treatment was my main concern, rebuild kits etc are cheap through the company I work for.
