First off Im pretty new to diesels,I build / restore hotrods & motorcycles for a living you know pAint &all but I specialize in custom metal work & I had wanted a diesel for.a long time so I can easily trailer customers cars.Well now I need help bad, about a few weeks back while looking for a trans for the lifted dodge.I found what the fella called a 02 f350 dually with no title well I decided to.possibly buy&would figure title out later...well he calls out of nowhere p.o. Sent him the title he only charged me 500.more but turns out it was a 99.5 fine with me,plus turns out it was a ford service truck&they had stickers allover from when they did breaks, trans flush, oil changes etc.Well put couple batteries in she ran fine.
******* ***** Got her towed home weds when.I bought it.Got my batts charged put em in.1st crank she fired,we drove around all was fine but 2 or 3 times.it shuddered.like a bike or atv /carbd anything does when the carb needs cleaned. Now the big problems.....
**************** ****** So todAy I go to fire her up & she just cranked & cranked so my other half hits it with either she fires & Im new to dieseis(I.was told from a buddy I should of waited half a minute or so b4 I pulled.off)Well the second she fired I pulled off&once on the rd I had her floored &wasnt.going over 20 she acted like she was starved for fuel, well I looked out.the rearview & saw white smoke come.out of exhaust. &then my rpms picked up & smoke went away,it smoked for under half a minute then I hit.30 or so &*2 miles later she died only way to get it to fire or run is with either.
***** **** My buddy came by with his rollback got it home he pulled the filter off the top of the motor &said the filter appeared to be in good condition but when we went to use the petcock to drain the fuel it didnt drain.Anyways he insists its the cam sensor, the fella I bought it from said 3 or.4.times that those cam sensors will go bad&just kill the truck while driving down the street.
So now Im thinking maybe he knew the problem existed on this truck and just didnt say so.Well online it says that if it is the CPS the needle on the tach won't move when you crank it but mine does. Also I went and pulled.the line attached to the petcock& all of the fuel drained.I then hooked backup the line & did what I read online to turn the key to the on position and the bowl would fill up wifh fuel I did so & no fuel ever came @ all.
>>>>>>>>IMPORTANT <<<<<<<<<< This thing sat with the same diesel for a year maybe few months more & with no additive like staybuilt. So please any ideas? Could it be the cam sensor? What all should I throw @ this to.freshen it up?It cranks fine & the other day it ran fine but just that stumble & idled fine.I dont mind working on it I just hope it's nothing too big.Also.how do I get all of this old fuel out of the system.
★★★★☆☆☆☆☆Thank you so.much ahead of time.
Please excuse any typos or terseness: this email was sent from my mobile and I have clumsy fingers☆☆☆☆☆★★★★★

Can you verify the fuel pump is running
It doesn't stay running with just the koeo, only runs for about 30 seconds.
As for getting old fuel out you could siphon the fuel out of the tank refill with fresh and purge out of the fuel bowl drain- if the pump runs. That's just one way maybe someone else has a better way

Turn the key on and see if you can hear it, or feel it
Does it fill the bowl with fuel, take the cap off and look inside fuel bowl

Have you checked fuses? May need to check out the fuel bowl heater. I remember people saying to just get rid of it but I don't know if it's linked to the pump

If the #18 fuse is blown, the fuel bowl heater fuse, the wait to start light wont come on.

Check that fuse, change it if bad, and unplug the heater connection at the fuel bowl. You literally have no use for it.

Also, you CAN hear the pump if its running. You will hear a dull hum and about five seconds after that youll hear swooshing in the fuel filter housing under the hood. Then it'll make a thud when it stops pumping.

Im deaf and I can hear it lol.

That should give him something to tinker with for a little while

Could also be the screens in the tank are clogged. Uncles truck did the same thing. Are you sure the pump isn't running?

So all.of the fuses look good when I turn the key on or have someone turn it on the fuel pump under the drivers seat dosnt have any sound or mechanical feel to it.The wait to start light I know does work.
What Im wanting to know is how do I get the line off the front of the pump.so I can see if fuel comes out when I turn the key on.Thats what I saw another fella had to do.Any other ideas on how to check the pump?

These a little fuel line release tool you can buy to slide in the fitting after that clip is removed, they should be cheap at the auto parts store

It takes a special wrench. Its a "quick connect" fitting. Turn the key on and put an electrical tester to the plug. Pump may just be shot. Its entirely possible.

I don't think so if the level in the bowl is below the lines going to the head
Look on the passenger side of the bowl you'll see the lines that go to the heads

Well when I 1st opened the bowl after it died on me the bowl was full so if the bowl was full if it was the pump then it should of still ran off of what was in the bowl I would think. Unless the pump feeds it through the bowl
