Is removing the factory e-locker more involved than simply remove and replace. I hate that its basically an open diff when its unlocked and I'd rather put a true trac in its place...

Nope. Pull it and swap the carrier. Leave the connector that bolts to the housing installed so there isnt a big hole in the housing.

I put a TT in my '12, then when my wife got in an accident w/ it and I sold it, I took the diff out and put it in my new(er) '16.

The process is pretty simple, pull the axles (tires can stay on), pull the diff cover, pull the 4 bolts that hold the carrier in and carefully pry it out. Press a set of bearings on the new carrier, swap the ring gear over and reverse the disassembly process.

Easy peasy
