the truck in question is my recently purchased 01 F250 7.3 2wd. 313,000 miles. runs like a champ. 15 mpg towing a 4500lb jeep behind a $3300 truck has been really nice.

I know my way around 4wd front ends, not so much 2wd and there seems to be a lot less information floating around.

when I bought the truck, the front tires had some strange wear. tons of tread on the outside, bald in the inside. right front has some feathering in the center. steering is a bit sloppy and it feels like a tire is out of balance at 75mph. no noises at all.

so I was at work getting ready to go home and for whatever reason I pushed on the 12 oclock position on the left front tire and felt a pretty obvious pop. pulled on it and it popped again. put it on a jack and it moves all over the place. put eyes on the knuckle and moved it and I can see the balljoints are not the cause, thankfully because it got new balljoints 9,000 miles ago.

I have built a few non unit bearing 60's so I am assuming this will be pretty familiar, I just dont have the truck with me to start tearing into things. left it at work and drove the jeep instead.

the 2wd is non unit bearing, correct? I can just go buy seals, bearings, and races at Napa right? anybody have any supporting information like parts breakdowns? google image search is failing me.

thanks folks!

well, turns out its the upper balljoint. I would rather it have been the bearings....

Ball joints are not too bad on 2wd trucks. Also, your previous assumption was correct, bearings races, and seals is all that there is to the front end of these.
