He hooked his scanner up and checked everything. He can't find anything. Everything was working the way it should be.
Either the converter isn't locking or the airflow is blocked. One or the other is your cause. If it is the converter not locking, and he has any idea of what he's doing with the scan tool, he'll find it. If he didn't, and knows the converter is locked, you have a problem getting airflow through the coolers.

I tried blowing everything out of the coolers. Nothing came out. I'm even able to see the trans cooler looking through the AC condenser.

Update: just had the trans taken out and partially rebuilt. New clutches and billet triple disc torque converter. Even put a mag-hytech pan on it

Just a thought....have you checked the trans cooler lines. Could they have gotten mixed up flow direction wise?

I don't think it would matter. It's just going through the 6.0 cooler

Question about the radiator flow. I skipped mine thinking i want the cleanest possible with a new trans. Whats the benefit?

It is where the majority of the heat is removed. The air cooler would have to be many times larger to keep up with what the cooler in the radiator can do.

Not going through the radiator?

Don't bypass the radiator cooler.

Totally understand your thinking but the rad cooler is very important especially when in reverse. If your trans had a catastrophic failure, you need to replace the trans cooler in the rad but it's easier to replace the entire rad.

Update again. Ran the lines through the radiator then the cooler and still running 180* while driving 70-75mph and it was raining and 70* out

Not to cloud things but my truck with a built trans, no radiator cooler (built without it) and a 6l cooler never broke 170. The bigger 6l cooler. Empty on the hottest summer days was 150s...

I did get it up to 190 once on monteagle pass. Bit that was pedal to the floor for 7 miles. I think 7 miles.

180 isn't too hot. Have you fired a different guage? Just thinking outside of the box.

We hooked up a snap on computer and they were within a few degrees of each other. I even put a brand new radiator in.

My only fear is how hot will it get when I hook a trailer up to it

You've still got issues. When I had TC issues, I got that warm quickly. Since the new TC and clutches , I don't get that warm in those conditions pulling 10K on flat road. I had it out last weekend with the car trailer, and I saw 145-155F on the OBD sensor in the solenoid block after 60 miles of rolling hills and flat. Just have a 6.0 cooler.

Have you done all of the flow tests as Mark suggested? If I recall correctly, the TCC (converter control) valve is a priority valve and when operating correctly, is a fine balance between apply flow pressure and cooler flow.

Im not sure that your trans guy has got you on the right path yet.

You only have the external oil to air cooler? My truck is this way too.

Gnxtc, i thought you could use cooler kleen on the radiator circuit because its just tubes running though the tank?
