So I am debating a few options to upgrade my stock system. I had a system pushing 3000 watts in my last car. It was 3 10's and a double din Nav/Dvd combo, upgraded all speakers, capacitor and dual batteries. I am done with the crazy system and want to go with something economical. Im thinking of going with 1 10" or 12" sub to save room behind the seat. What you guys think?

Pioneer AVHX2500BT DVD double Din
Crunch P1-5050.5 5 channel amp
JL Audio 10W1v3-4

or
Pioneer AVHX2500BT DVD double Din
Crunch P1-5050.5 5 channel amp
Alpine SWR-1043D

i know that jl is pretty weak. if you're really airspace challenged, go good shallows, if not go 10w6 and dont look back. 1 10w6 will be way more than enough. just needs a solid 500 watts RMS for full capability.

Agreed. Don't waste any time on a w1.
If you want jl, no less than a w3.

I would go with a good shallow 12, or 2 shallow 10s
I prefer kicker, but most every brand has a quality shallow.

I had kicker shallow mounts in my f150 and I was not pleased. They didn't hit low at all and lacked any punch unless it was mid range. At the time only a few companies even made shallow mount.

I want a sub that rocks like my jl w3 in my commuter car.

I've been lookin at 2 8" kicker L7 for my truck and I've heard good things bout the bass range on them.

I had three 10" kicker L7 and they rock. The only bad thing is the airspace required for them.

I have no clue what sub to go with in truck

Guys took the words out of my mouth, if you can swing a W6 that will be the cleanest sounding sub out of what has been discussed here. The W6 is JL's flagship sound quality sub, the W7 is simply a compromise between output and clarity.

The Type R (or Type ARGHH) is a classic bass head sub, they are known to soak up loads of power beyond their ratings and flat out pressurize a cabin for cheap money, but not known for their clarity, and also I believe much deeper mounting depth than a W3 or W6.

A kicker L7 will have a rather unique sound, the square shape allows for greater cone area which increases output per wattage, but also non circular cones will color the sound, and muddy the audible reproduction. Not as critical on a subwoofer as on a speaker, but still a step away from clear/clean sound.

Whatever you pick a proper box will make the best out of the driver, then feed it all the wattage it can safely handle and spend some time tuning the system and you should be happy.

I like the way you think, I still dream of 4 BM's behind the back seat :redspotdance:

But I love my Mag V4 in the center console, super clean and pretty sure I will never get rid of it, just kick myself since I had 4 in my possesion at one point and now only 1.

i'm doing (3) jl10tw3 shallows. well im 99.9% sure i have the airspace, 1.5 cubic feet needed sealed box. should have box done today, amps wired etc... i heard a truck with same setup and it was very capable. not even working hard and it was VERY loud. i dont like crazy loud , but like to know i can if i want. i'm also trying really hard to keep the factory sub for midbass. amp rack on the back wall may disagree though. ill post pics up when done.

Nice, looking forward to the pics!! Should be able to EEEK out 2ft^3 behind the seat in 04+ trucks, so 1.5 should be doable. Maybe add a little poly fill to increase the low end response on the subs.

As for the factory sub as midbass I am not so sure how well that will work out, as mid bass frequencies start to bring out vocals and more detail and with the factory sub and location it might draw the imaging away.

Plus a set of good door speakers, with a built door (deadener, sealed access panels, and decoupling the speaker) will GREATLY increase the mid bass response. Usually a built door will allow mids that were crossed at 80 or 100hz to drop all the way down to 50hz.

I wanted to keep it simple on this truck. Just got it done last week. Went with AVHX4500BT for the deck. Replaced door speakers, two slim 12's behind the seat. A kicker dx400 powering the door speakers and a kicker 600 for the subs. I couldn't be happier. I've had much louder/bigger but everything sounds clean and will make my ears ring long after I get out.

The best shallow mount 12inch sub, BM MKiv is now in the pre order stage. Get signed up now for a significant discount. Only need a half cubic foot to make these perform like a big boxed sub...and its about time, been waiting close to two years now for them to be released.

I hope Nick can get these to the market quick, its been a few years since he has had anything for purchase. The BM MKIII seemed like a great sub. I have his Mag V4 which has been awesome, and I will never get rid of.

I hope so too...It's been a long wait seeing I went out and made my under console box almost 2 years ago, and have had no sub since then...http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/images/smilies/popcorn.gif
