If any of you drive like I do, 400hp is about all ya want on a dd. No matter what I do or whats hooked to the dually, I could never keep my foot out of the floor board... everything that was said already is spot on. im not at 500hp but if I was, id still use it all...

live life full throttle...
load it like a box car, drive it like a stock car

I was pulling a load of scrap metal to the scrap years here a while back that weighed 14k lbs. I used my white truck with 400/400's and s482. It would blow the rear tires off at 30. I thought it was funny so I was doing it at every stop on the way. Byron (haysksfirefighter) didn't think it was so funny. LOLLOLLOL

Just hearing the story, its pretty funny. My boss always says "powerful sonofabish" when he gets the tires to scrub on wet pavement pulling our 16x8'6" enclosed trailer. Im usually like

About 10k here... Should have stopped at stage 2's and a 38r.... got the itch, bent a forged rod, rebuilt engine, and here is where I am now.

I'm baffled guys.....stock forged rod motor will make 575 hp all day being beat for WAYYYYYY less than 12 or $20k f'ing unreal.
250cc/200% $1900
Hpop $700-1000
ARP (PIECE OF MIND) $650
SMITH Bro Push rods $ 250
COMP .910 springs. $150
new Boots $175
plenum crush inserts $40
Brute 66 turbo $1400 [free tunes]
Ford ICP Sensor $165
Ford IPR Valve $210
So $5,945 (high side) will give you 575hp all day reliably. Forged tod motors can be had for $400-2,000 easily.

Or do what i'm doing, used/DIY parts and shooting for 450-500hp. I will say its an absolute blast on the streets, not setting the world on fire but when its running good its pretty fun. Plus for the money its hard to argue with it.

250/200's-$1100( really $200 as i sold my 2's for $900)
D66/blank pedestal-$700
Tunes-$500 for Minotaur
DIY fuel system-$180
Melling LPOP, 910's, some other goodies-$200
Complete 120k mile super clean engine-$700

Planning on putting another $5-600 total into an intercooler, DIY HPOP, and possibly an aftermarket compressor wheel. Hope to be at or over 500 at that point.

When you make 500 or hell even 400 your opinion might be more credible. Add in 1500 for a fuel system and 5k for a bts and youre at 12k and a 66mm drop in ain't the same as an s468

Why do any of this? Why not just put another 40 ft lbs of torque on the stock head bolts, shim the stock valve springs, and make up the rest with a 250 hp nitrous jet? 575 hp for under $500 bucks. Please post your dyno run/time slip with the above recommended power combination.

Because it won't last doing that.

It'll last as long as the previously recommended combo. Build it half ass...get half ass results. 575 hp.....anywhere but the Internet fantasy world...that's a 98% percentile 7.3 ....and this thread makes it sound cheap and easy.

I've spent a good bit on my setup.....and still not running:pointlaugh:

But wanted to get a setup that can handle abuse.
Tried to get and find deals to save where I could.

But still worried I'm spending too much on an old truck.

Id say you were being realistic...

I dont even see a turbo in that list....

I suppose a 38r is assumed....

You are! Once you filled it with fuel it got expensive. Vref is right, pick your poison.

Like I said, dont see a turbo on that list. Is that a special formula of Brut deodorant? "brut 66, go ahead, put it on!"
