Did you ever figure this out? My 12 did the same thing.....except as I was driving down the interstate it would magically say "trailer connected". Even when I would manually apply the brakes using the trailer controller on the dash, it would still apply the brake at the trailer back...

I like the black lens ones.....that way when the light isn't on, it's not so noticeable that there's something there. I like it to blend in with the fixture instead of being a drastic difference....
