Hey guys. Ive been in the market for a 17+ truck with around 100k miles but havent found one I really like and to be honest dont really love the idea of dropping 30k. I came across a 2011 that appears to be very clean listed for 19k. Has 103k miles.

What items would you all be concerned about with this model year and 1st generation of the 6.7. I would plan on deleting the egr, and installing a fuel system disaster kit.

I was looking at the 17+ to avoid rust issues on the body in the future and get past the issues the first few years that the 6.7 had.

Thanks in advance.

I’d have the dealer run the vin and check to see if it falls under the tsb for the glow plug codes. Dropping a valve and having to put a motor in it would be no fun…

Other than rust.... my biggest concern would be the HPFP. If you're doing the full diet... yeah, that's about it.

Like 6.0 tech said. I don't remember all the details but there were some issues with the early 6.7 engines. Not everyone had problems, but they did occur more frequently in that year.

I called a dealer and the guy i spoke to had no knowledge about the valve/glowplug issue.

He did tell me it was built in June 2010.

June of 2010 is definitely in the build date for the issue. Unless it has had an engine put in it already, I would pass on it. Replacement motors will have stickers, typically on the valve covers or core support that say this engine takes glow plugs blah blah blah. Can’t remember the exact part number but it’s bc3z-12a342-something.

It was the first run of these that had the issue. But the end build date was in 2011, can’t remember which month. Could always have them run an oasis, and put code p0671 in as a filter, it will bring up tsbs for that code and give you something better to go off.

What I've had is that the gasket is flat even or recessed into the groove. I actually resealed one and it came back a month later. The rubber gasket was well below the groove. Ended up tossing entirely new pan up there. Weeeeird
