This weekends progress... Rear Axle Freed of Springs and Driveline: This is the front hanger for the rear leaf springs. This would be my nemesis this weekend. Used to be we could just knock off the rivets and off it came... Starting in 2008 Ford decided they needed to weld the hanger on. It doesn't look like that much weld, but it goes about 75% around the hanger and it's not all easy to get to: An air chisel makes quick work of the rivets, had all 8 of them removed in less than 10 minutes: After getting the first one off, thought it would be interesting to see the difference in the old and the new mounting points. There are 2 to pick from in the new mount. You can also see all of the area I had to grind weld from in this shot too: Passenger side after getting the hanger off. All in all, it probably took me 3-4 hours just to get these off the frame: Passenger side painted and the new hanger mounted: Driver Side painted and the new hanger mounted: Some of the leaf spring pack NOT going back on the truck. The overload has to be removed or it will be constantly hitting the frame pads. The flat bottom bar had to be removed on my dually to get the ride height I wanted, so I went ahead and pulled it from this truck...hoping I don't have to take it apart a second time: Modified spring pack hung in place. Need a new front mounting bolt and nut for both sides as I had to get them really hot to get them off the truck. One Up Offroad traction bar kit going in as well, so I need to get into that kit and get the axle bottom plate and U-Bolts so I can attach the springs to the axle again. Getting close:
