Found out my truck does have the 4R100 tranny and I have another 4r100 for it but it's two wheel drive and mine is a four wheel drive what exactly has to be done do turn it into four wheel drive

I believe it has to come all the way apart to change the tailshaft.

Arisley is right, BOTH trans would have to come 90% apart just to get the tailshafts swapped.

If you can't be without your truck, but a used 4WD tailshaft and have the one rebuilt.

Yup, need to stand it up on end and pull all the guts out.

What is wrong with your current trans? How much power are you making? What do you use your truck for?

I took my dad's 2wd BTS trans and converted it to 4wd for my truck along with a couple tweaks to handle the higher horsepower. Once you send a transmission in to get rebuilt or convert to 4wd it's getting torn all the way down either way.
