I wouldnt take the motor apart just to do pistons if it wasn't hurt. But that's just me.... If it was coming apart just to do it I would want to do it all once and be done with it. You are tearing it down just to leave the stock rods in it... If a piston failed and you needed to replace them that's one thing. I say run it till it blows. Find a rebuildable short block to build on your own time or save money for pistons and rods and do it all at once. Building a motor is a HUGE investment. You could slap a 472 and some fuel on this thing and run it until you sell it for all you know with no internal issues, and not be out 15k.
