I have some pretty mean surge. I have PHP tunes, Tymar, Walker BTM. I need to do something about my turbo. I am looking for the quickest spool I can get (6spd don't forget)for towing my 30ft 5th wheel.

My options are:

1) install ported housing.

2) install WW2/Riff Raff wheel

3) install ported housing & Riff Raff wheel for ported housing

4) buy 38r w 1.0 ar ( I have bellowed up pipes already)

5) buy brute 66 w 1.0 ar

I am not going the T4 mount.

Thanks for any help.

What air filter are you running? I build my own intake using an afe 24-91042 filter. I noticed an immediate, much faster spooling of the turbo. And I had a stage I cold air intake before. Even when coasting at around 1200 rpm, I can hear the turbo spooling up just by the air being sucked through the engine. The filter positively reduced the restriction that the turbo first had to overcome.

I am currently preparing to modify my truck from auto to 6sp transmission, so I am aware of your concerns re spool-up. The turbo I am considering, after reviewing a long and detailed thread on another forum with loads of information, dozens of dyno runs, changes to turbo, housing, wheel, adjusting tunes (the full 9 yards every time) is: 38R with original equipped housing and the wicked wheel II. The wheel only gives minimal power advantage, but it quiets down the turbo. The above mentioned test did not find any better combination then the original equipped 38R. This test truck made about 566 hp, 1190 ft.lbs. The mods are Adrenaline HPOP and fullforce single shot 250cc/200%. And as mentioned earlier, I found the change in air filter I did improved spool up and boost noticeably for me. You have already the tymar setup, the filter I mentioned is the same size, but has more flow, aka less restriction.
