It's not just 7.3's
Any pre-SCR truck will hold its value. Doesn't matter if it's a Ford, Dodge or GM.

It's pretty bad up here in the north-east as well. It's almost impossible to find any under $12k, and the majority need(or will) new beds, along with lots of other rust issues. Clean ones are running for $16-18k+

Just crazy.

Yep a lot of old timers who got burned by the 6.0 then the 6.4 and now want their old truck back....LOL I know a few guys who did that.

That works with the cummins guys too. There isn't any kind of emissions on the older trucks either, easier to work on and cheaper.

Buying these older trucks with higher mileage isn't as risky as buying a newer truck with high mileage in their opinion.

It's pretty amazing to see what they are listed for in the Northwest.

It's not uncommon to see 7.3's listed around $30k or more.

Here's just a few that I came across recently listed around the country.

IMO market value is based on a lot of factors, but if you're talking about excursions a lot of it seems to be supply and demand and what has value to you. I was looking about 5 years ago and honestly the prices haven't changed much since then. It took me about a year to find mine (4wd loaded 7.3) and I just got lucky... I was using searchtempest to view a 500 mile radius. A guy listed one on CL one afternoon, I called him within a couple hours of it being posted and met him first thing the next morning (he was 200 miles one-way). From the time I called to when I met him, he said he had 5 other people offer to come get it that night because he was asking about book value. I'm just lucky that he was decent enough to wait on me to get there. I got mine for about $9k, cash-in-hand when I was seeing them for two and three times as much on lots and on CL. I've passed on plenty of good deals that were far under market and book value, including 2wd 6L excursions because the value just wasn't there for me.

BTW, good luck with the whole bank thing... I try to avoid that route whenever I can.

I'm 100% with you on avoiding the bank loan. We have no auto loans or credit cards and I sleep just fine with that.
The book value I have but market value I don't so bank comes into play.
But as of now I'm not willing to put all that money down plus have a loan.
Been throwing the idea around about selling my truck and then getting into an Excursion, but need something to tow my little work trailer so I would have to get an Excursion then sell, then pay off the loan. lol

And yeah you got an awesome deal at $9k for yours. I found a couple about 5hrs away for $11k and $12.5 but a lot of people just don't seem to work with you on pics and info.

Had a guy stop me in a Safeway parking lot right after I put the 07 front end on saying he worked for a dealership in sunnyside and told me he'd buy it right then and there for 10k. Then asked what motor and when I told him 7.3 not 6.0 and manual everything he said I'll give you 15k right now for it, or 20k trade in.... wish I had gotten his business card. Didn't do it at the time because I had just dropped about 8k into it and was still enjoying it. Wish I could take him up on it now though....**** if he would give me 20k trade in for it, I bet I could find a 6.0 he would PAY me to take off the lot...or a 6.4 that would only cost me a few grand on top....

If this is the price 7.3s are now going for I will never own another one and never feel bad about it. I will never have as much in my 6.0 as these people are asking for these relics. lol

Asking and selling for that price are two different things with the guys selling overpriced 15 year old trucks. I doubt the high dollar listed 7.3's are selling for the list price.

Any time I stop by a dealership in my excursion I always have someone come over and ask about it. Once they hear it's a 7.3, they ask if I want to trade it in and tell me about the great deal they'll give me. Maybe one of these years lol.

Before I sold my E99 I took it to a dealer to see what I could get, they low balled me because of the dints / dings and 280K miles of work on it. Then we talked about performance parts I had and they backed out. Around home they wanted stock 7.3s not ones doubling factor hp ratings

I'm in the process of prepping my OBS for sale. People are always asking to buy it and since I bought a 2013 last year, I just never drive it. Out should sell in a week. Just wondering what i can get for it.

It's all relative... People are always willing to give decent money for an older, nice truck when new ones cost 60k. It's always been that way. If it takes 10-15k, then that's what they sell for.. Supply, demand...
