I am running a custom Garrett gtx charger and it spools and pulls great with my 350/200

Fixed it for yah. Lol. Anyhow, did you use the Gtx4294r with your build? The GTX 4294r, is the Turbo I built my truck around last year. I decided to wait to get this Turbo until after break in. I currently have about 10K miles on the engine, but I've tried to figure out with everyone's post's here and all the other threads and Info I've gathered and read on the internet, which one will clean up my injectors, and make my truck a joy to drive. with out all the issues. The only major difference from my build to that of others is, I have a GH Stage1 cam in mine and PP heads too. The cam seems to not have the drive pressure to light the 38r down low for starters. So, I'm trying to read and gather enough info here to make the right choice/Turbo to go with. I've also talked with Charlie Fish who is almost done with his stock location type bolt in BBTurbo that is said to be pretty much the same as the BW SXE 369. This excites me, but the SXE468 really excites me too, as well as does the GTX4294r. My question is does anyone know or have experience enough with the GTX 4294r to say if this would clean up my injectors. I've talked with Matt/Irate diesel, and he's the one that suggested the 468, or even the sxe369 as well. My issues are as follows. I have a haze at idle, constant smoke cruising, and heavy smoke at tip in, and high egt's. So what do y'all think about this. Thank you..

The s468 is a good choice for 300/200s. It is fast to light and reliable. It makes the power just look at Matt from irate because thats what he runs. As far as the gtx 4294r the exhaust side is a little small for our size motors. My turbo is custom built. It uses the exhaust side of the gtx4508 but uses the compressor side of the gtx4202 with a custom compressor wheel. I have a GH stage one came and port/polish work and I love my setup. The turbo lights fast and pulls hard and cleans up my injectors. I feel like the sxe369 would not clean the 300/200s up but I have never seen one work so I'm not sure.

I've talked to Matt/Irate on the phone and email. He also mentioned the S468 as the Turbo he uses for his set up. It put him at 670 hp and he is still running a stock cam and stock heads too. So yeah, very impressive. I was about ready to pull the trigger on a T4 w S468, then I got the word about a new BB KC turbo that's fix'n to hit the market and I decided to wait. It's based of the sxe369 platform, but it's a true bolt in also. It would be nice to be able bolt in the several Turbo options that we've discussed here, and see which one is the right one for my setup, then buy the one that works. I just don't think anyones gonna go for that one. "Try before you buy" LOL...I am leaning towards the S468..I apologize to take away from the OP. Maybe some one can move my post's to another new thread for me. Again I apologize guys.. You to Brad. Thank you Powerstroker7.3

If they made a stock mount bb turbo based on the 364.5 sxe, I would buy one in a heartbeat. I think I might just call them on Friday and pick their brain.

What pulse width are you happy with running with your 38R?

I was moderately happy with 2.8ms (100% nozzles) with a stock 38R. Though in an empty straight out pull, the top end felt restrictive compared to the 66sxe. I'd say the bulk of the use able power was from 2,000-3,000. Now it pulls straight to red line. Though I'm a 6 speed config.

With the 366sxe being the only change, all the power band continues deeper into the rpm range. (better top end) and pulling the same grade with the same camper achieved better speed at same or lower egts, in OD. While accelerating !

But that's been my experience.

Can you be a tad more specific? 2ms isnt doing shti in my parade. I have 250/200s. I cant imagine a 2ms tune with a 100% nozzle was much else besides smoky on a6spd.

With an auto things are entirely different for me but when my turbo is spooled in 3rd or 4th gear, ive seen pw values in excess of 3ms. Nothing wild or dangerous happens. Hardly any smoke. The truck ***kin rips plain and simple. I was passing someone in the "economy" tune two weeks ago and the road was wet. I found myself sideways. Trying to move briskly from 45-70 in the wimpiest tune I have. My stock tune has more heavy pedal pw but kinda drives shttily over 65% throttle. Idles like a brand new stock truck though. The eco tunehas some weird highER idle condition where after 30 seconds in idle it goes to 800rpm. The tune feels punchythough because the pulsewidth is pullled back enough it runssuper clean.

Im commuting all week on a half tank of fuel. I dont wanna jinx myself but I've got 3 gand calc'd tanks over 20 mpg. Monday morning I fueled and added 10.4gal and i had traveled 230 miles. Don't ask me how. I dont drive like a maniac or agrandpa. Most times I just expeditiously move towards the speedlimit.

Many fellers Ive personally helped with these setups say"i wish i was getting20" and it clicks to me that they have a mechanical issue causing the egt issue purported to be a shortciming of the 38r. I mean, you guys have seen and heard what Charile does with 300/200s and a stock 38r?

Good man! Lotta good info being shared. If you care to have the 38r bs pared from the dialog ask a moderator. No hard feelings. I just think there is a disconnect somewhere.

Unfortunately I don't have AE, nor do I have the knowledge that some here posses to read, see and or make adjustments to my setup. I've thought about getting the software to tune my truck, but it's just not in my budget rightnow. Just got laid off yesterday too, so now I'm really in a tight spot.:walkin:

Agreed on the disconnect!
Do I just expect more from a turbo than you?
Is your tuning better than mine?
Is your engine in better shape?
Did I get a bum turbo?

Who knows! The only way to tell is to drive each other's trucks. Road trip?

The guy I sold my 38r to loves it and it runs good on his non tuned truck. I ran PHP and DP tuning and egts were the same and neither had excessive PW. When I pulled the 38 off I checked the waste gate and it was obvious that it had never opened, there was no soot under the valve.

If your happy with it, then keep it!

As for ******** the 38r posts, why? I just finished voting to preserve the constitution, my opinion isn't the only one allowed here!

Rock on.

I don't speak to belittle but rather say that other than extreme instances my 38r does just what people are claiming only bw sxe series turbos will do.

Charlie, one of the innovators of the 7.3 would laugh maniacally at this whole notion. Just because he would also say if you cant get a 38r to move air you have some issues somewhere. Mine was kind of turdy at times when i was trying to use it with stock injectors and tuning. Theres not enough fuel to lug it and pull it up on boost. With 175/80s it was rather lackluster and got hot and smoky until the fuel was pulled waaay back to the point it was clean.

With 250/200s and all the goodies you should have to run them, it works very well. Im gonna say many issues are tuning related.

I guess I agree with some of that. The point of going to say an sxe turbo vs a 38r is to flow more air will less lag and less smoke correct? That being said the goal here is to get the most out of our injectors and have a solid performing rig. Sooooo pulling fuel and "detuning" your injectors to make a 38r smoke free and cool egts makes no sense to me at all.

I have a DD tune that Matt pulled so far back it idles rough, and rolls constantly up and down. It has a haze at idle, always smokes when cruising, and on tip in, gets real smokey. On any slight grade my egts will hit 1100. Brad if you know the Santa Susana Pass grade coming up out of Simi Valley, not sure if you know this area, but this short grade will push my egt's that high real quick. Its about as long as the 57 South at San Dimas. I have to down shift, to get the R's up to spool the turbo just to bring it down to 900. And this is all empty, so forget about towing. I just gotta get the right combo to clean this thing up is all, and from what I gather it's gonna be the S468, or maybe the new BB KC Turbo. We'll see. My up pipes are tight, also. I have bellowed up pipes and I've pressure checked my entire system too, no leaks. In my all out Tune when I lay into it hard, that 38r will hit 45 psi, and at 35-40 mph still get a rolling burn out. Not bad for a 38r w 6X6 wheel huh? It just won't clean up my injectors while cruising and again runs to hot empty, forget Towing. Anyhow I still got some work to do on my rig to get it where it should be.
