Been doing it for a long time, but mostly on an incline. Now it seems like it even does it alot on flat ground. Go to put it in gear from park and you can hear the shifter forks clang like a mofo. Also when I put it in park from a dead stop and let off the brake it will rock back and forth a couple times or roll one way or the other a couple inches.
I'm just wondering if these things are normal. Thanks

mine will jump forward when putting the truck in park from drive... or jump backwards when going from reverse to park. but no "clanking". It is normal operation with the 6r from what i was told. I asked this question as well to one of the ford techs when i first purchased the truck. The truck really lunges for sure. this symptom really sticks out when the vehicle is cold/first start-up- for me it happens when i pull it out of the shop... once it warms up to 90 degrees or so, the truck does not lunge forward or backwards as severely,

Mine clanks loud as hell. Especially if it's on any kind of incline. You can actually hear the forks clank and rattle. Kind of hard to explain.

Parking brake. Set it to keep the truck from resting on the parking pawl.

Why should you have to do that though? Is it something in the trans? I've never had a truck do this.....

My fault if I confused you then. Sounds different now that you explained it that way. Not sure now lol only time I use my emergency brake is on severe inclines or declines only to aid the trans from catching the vehicles weight.

You shouldn't. I've done it with every auto I've driven, even for a bit bacause I simply can't fathom how stopping, throwing in park on an incline, letting off the brake, letting the truck bounce off the linkage, and later jerking it out of park would be good for the transmission. I've always been a bit OCD about it

That's the thing though. It doesn't have to be much of an incline at all.

I've heard vehicles sound like crap on mild inclines as well. Try setting the parking brake before letting off the brake after stopping. See if it helps.

That's just one thing. Hopefully someone chimes in with something more insightful.

Well being that we have a fleet of 6.7's and my truck and two of my friends trucks all do it, I'm thinking its normal. Yes indeed you should be using your parking brake on a hill as this does stop it from doing this.

agreed i cringe when i see people just let the truck go after engaging park on an incline/decline. I have always been like this- all my vehicles being my beater on the new truck.
LOL if you saw the little piece of metal that actually holds your truck from drifting back or forward- you would be ocd as well.

I've had it happen to me, depends on how you put it in park if there's stress. Nothing to worry about though.
