Guys I just picked up a kicker l5 12" in a ported box from a pawn shop on my lunch hour this thing hits crazy lows the dimensions of the box are perfect size I'm going to glass it and paint it to finish it off I'll post pics shortly

Awesome!!! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I want to put 2 sundown 8's behind my seat. This is coming from a guy who didnt think 4 12's was enough a few years ago.

I have 2 sundown 8's in the console. You'll be happy. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago.

Yay Sundown! Great gear and great small US company, always glad to see more people running their gear.

I still love this setup, simple stealth that works!

Quick plug for my version of a center console box.

Approximately 0.93ft^3 and 7" mounting depth built from 3/4" MDF and fiberglass. Sub weighs in at 25lbs, total console with sub is now 78lbs, and there is not much weight to a factory 08 console

Upinsmoke, you gmhave any pics of the console? Is there room behind the back seat? I was looking into the sd8s as well since it needs less than 5" of depth and 1/4 cu ft.

I have the sa-8's... They need more air and depth than that.

And in my case with the truck being an extended cab, there is virtually no room behind the back rest of the backseat

It's a big bulky box, but it works flawlessly for me. I can worry about building one that looks better later on.

I guess my post comes off misleading. No way you can do two 8's in the FACTORY console. I built a new one. Sorry about the confusion

I assumed you had built one. Im planning to build mine, but I was going to throw a box behind the seat for now. I bought the sd8's. They will fit, but with so much excursion, im afraid they will hit the seat. I might buy an el cheapo prefab box and see if I can make work until I get started on the console. Its just too damn hot in the garage right now for doing fiberglass work.

What all went into putting the 12" sub in the 08 console? How did you get it air tight, for lack of a better description? I have the box from my crewcab behind the seat of my single cab, and while it fits fine, I can't recline my seat any, because the seat rests on the box. I am 6'3", and while a single cab is far less roomy than my crew cab was, without the box, I could recline the seat til it touched the wall before. I'm honestly contemplating buying a smaller box for behind the passenger seat, and mounting the amp behind the console on the wall. (I have the buckets, with flip up console)

The box is all fiberglass to be sealed up.

and cross section of the rear of the console. Top part is the storage section, bottom is the sub box, a few screws down through the storage part into the sub box links the console part to the sub box part.

anyone done this to a 2013? I have an xl with the middle "baby" seat and flip console combo. I would much rather a center console and no middle seat, only issue keeping me from moving forward will be that I will loose my stock armrests and have to come up with an alternate option..... decisions decisions!

Well I've got started on mine, lots of glass, bondo and sanding but I'm enjoying it.

Sweet!! Take lots of pics, some of us really enjoy seeing this stuff

Very nice!

Is that a 12" JL? I had wanted to start a similar build to that a long time back, but ended up moving and bouncing around a lot so I never had a place or time to work on it. Curious if you could get some floor to "arm rest" measurements for me so I can better grasp the size of the console vs what you can fit inside and all.

The sub is a 10W3. Height is ~17-18 inches. Inside the console below the cup holders is a JX500-1 amp, and the forward half of the box houses wires, crossovers, etc.

I'm running two JL w5 13.5" shallow mounts behind the seat in a sealed box on an older 1500.1 Autotek Mean Machine.. Im quite happy, they get pretty low to be shallow mounts in a sealed box.. Kinda pricey, got lucky and picked up two in a box for 400.00. Retail around 500 a piece new I believe?
