clunk noise from take off

I have a early 99 f250 super duty. when ever I take off from a dead stop the truck makes a loud clunk. checked the U-joints for play and I couldn't find any. Any ideas?

mine does it too....



whats wrong with high pressure equip grease or quality wheel bearing grease? honest question

You may not get any play in the ujoints when you check if there is a load on the driveline. We are taught in school to roll the vehicle into the shop without touching the brakes and leave it in neutral. Block the wheels then use a dial indicator to check play. In the semi world anything with more then about 0.015" is considered unserviceable.

May also be the transmission mount if it is really worn. Mine was shot.

my rclb only does this when its super cold outside... cant find anything other then the slip joint is sloppy.. figured that is all it was...

Had this and 2 shifts later rear drive line dropped. Both u joints shot but no play before hand.
