Have you bothered to test the glow plugs to see if they even need replacing, or are we at the point we're going to throw parts at it?

Diagnose, verify, repair...

FWIW, I have a few FICM's on my shelf that read a perfect 48+V at all conditions, but the truck runs like absolute garbage.

To me it sounds like your FICM is having issues, if the voltage is jumping around like that.

To test glow plugs and glow plug control module:

Disconnect the 4-pin connector at front of valve cover. Measure each glow plug resistance to battery ground. Glow plugs should read .1 to 2 ohms. Measure engine harness resistance to GPCM that should read 0 to 1 ohms.


Also, how are the batteries? Have they been load tested recently?

I run Mobil 5-40 synthetic and archoil fuel and oil additives but still in weather 50 or below i get the unburned fuel haze until EOT and ECT's are about 115* or so.
