Picking up a dana 60 from a 04' with a 6.0, does anyone know if the 6.0's front drive shaft will work in the swap as the 60 is a bit longer

could'a swore it was all a direct bolt in. At least the yoke size is the same on the u-joint end. Then again, Mine was on a lifted truck with a stock front shaft, so the length worked out in my favor if that's the case. Cool info psduser1.

That's the only way I've found to tell the 50 from a 60 is the longer pinion. I swear that when I swapped my 50 to a 60 I stayed with my original driveshaft tho.

I've only done one swap, and it required shortening my original shaft, or swapping to the one that came on the d60 truck.

There is a difference in length between the zf equipped trucks and the 4r equipped trucks, as the transmissions are a different length, also. The zf case is longer, although I never did actually measure them.

I swapped a 60 under my 00 truck and didn't change the front shaft. It is lifted some though.

However, I can tell you for 100% sure, there are numerous different shafts between zfs and autos.

I have never been able to make total sense of what Ford did on the changes.

Thanks, but is the driveshaft the same from a say 03' 7.3 and 04' 6.0. I know when I sold a front driveshaft from a 01' 7.3 to a buddy that had a 03' 7.3, he had to have it shortened

Afaik, driveshaft length is only determined by transmission and axle choices.
