I accidentally put 2.5 Gallons in the fuel tank. The nect day I started it and it ran for several minutes or so and died. I tried to restart it with little success. Then it occurred to me what I had done. I drained the tank and then Had my son in law tow it to a shop where they checked a few things for the DEF infiltration and found it in the regulator and other places. They drained what the could then added Fuel treatment and ran many gallons of diesel thru. I have put over 600 miles on it and it runs just fine , No codes at anytime. I drained the filter about every 200 miles to find a very small amount of DEF in the bottom of the container. Each time I top the tank off I added more diesel treatment. So the question is have a dodged a bullet and/or severely shortened the life of my fuel system?

You have greatly shortened the life of the internals of the pump. The cam/lifter may now have scoring due to lack of lubrication.

Best thing to do right now is change the hpfp, and you may even want to look into a newer style pump that's out there.
