DIY fuel system

Im wanting to upgrade my fuel pump, I bought a SD lift pump from a buddy of mine and plan to convert it to my truck, looking for a small build out this but mostly cheap. Anyone have a parts list or a thread you can send me to so I can get some barings on where to go from here? any help appreciated!

No problem. Good luck. A good way to save money and still get quality parts is to use brake line for the lines, you can buy it is straight pieces from any auto parts house. Use compression fittings from Home Depot to connect them.

You can buy a cheap tubing bender from Harbor Freight or Northern tool to custom bend the lines to fit. Use a coat hanger to bend for a pattern and then bend the tubing to match. Pretty easy and looks good.

Here is my parts list.


Fuel Pump & Filter Area:
- Super Duty 7.3 electric fuel pump & bracket (eBay, Forum member, or Junk Yard)
- Stanadyne FM-100 fuel/water separator with fuel heater
- Napa final filter base (WIX 24770 or NAPA 4770)
- WIX 2 micron absolute final filter
- WIX 30 micron fuel/water separator
- 3/8" Diesel Rated Fuel Injection Hose (about 6')
- 1x 5/16" Tube x 6AN fitting
- 1x 6AN Female x 6AN Hose Barb
- 1x 3/8" brass ball valve for fuel shut off
- 1x 3/8" tube x 5/16" 90* fuel pump hookup (O'Reilly) (used to connect 3/8" fuel line to SD fuel pump)
- Misc. Fittings for filter bases


Under the Hood:
- 7/8" Freeze Plug (O'Reilly) (To seal the OEM fuel pump hole, coat with sealant and dimple the edges)
- Aeromotive 13109 Fuel PSI Regulator
- 1x 6ORB male x 6AN male (fuel PSI regulator return to tank port)
- 2x 6ORB male x 6AN male 90* Swival (fuel PSI regulator return fuel line ports)
- 4x 6AN Female x 4AN Male (fuel PSI regulator return fuel lines from heads & fuel line step down at Y fitting)
- 2x 3/8" Tube x 6AN Female (Supply and Return hard line)
- 6AN Y Block
- 2x 4AN Female x 4AN Hose Barb (Y block to head)
- 2x 1/8" NPT x 4AN Male (supply ports in the rear of the head)
- 2x 4AN Female x 4AN Hose Barb (supply ports in the rear of head)
- 1/4" Diesel Rated Fuel Injection Hose (about 5')
- 3/8" Diesel Rated Fuel Injection Hose (about 2')


Oil Pressure Switch:
- Holley 12-810


I also used a relay socket and MAXI fuse to wire to supply the power and relay for the system.


Here is what my setup under the truck looks like and some old pictures of the fuel PSI regulator setup (don't have any pictures of under the hood with the new fitting setup).

That is a pretty good price for a new pump.

You can usually get good used ones with the bracket and wiring harness for around $100.

What fittings go to what size hose an also what style hose??

You kind of dug this one out of the grave. Just punch "obs 7.3 efuel" in a search bar and you will come across all the information you will need. There are many hose, fitting, regulator, pump and so on choices.

fancy hose and fitting are listed in 16ths
so -08 is 8/16" = 1/2"

personally I try and minimize the use of hose and go with stainless tubing where ever possible
