Went to drop the spare today and its got what looks like half of a wheel lock on it...down inside the tube.

Is this a factory item or something someone added?

None of my wheels have locks on them.

Glad I found it without having had a flat tire on the side of the road Lol

thanks in advance

Yeah they require a special key. Luckily my SD had the key in the glovebox

3/8s drive 9/16s or 14mm 12 point and extension + hammer. Gets it every time so far, but you wont get your socket back.

you can hit the dealer most have a set of keys
they will try until they get a match and then supply you with the key but it also needs the tire rods to fit onIIRC

The lock doesn't come off, you rotate the tire down with it.

I found a few threads on here where guys did just this....lower the tire...then get in there , take the tube out and separate the lock from the winch....then the regular tube will work to lower and raise it

Yeah I think they have serial numbers on them...
there are no serial numbers or vin match

the keys are color coded as far as I remember

ebay used to sell the whole master set cheaper than the dealer sold 1 key lol

I also have read that u can do the work around with a socket and then remove the special lock part like mentioned

but without the old key the color code or serial # is useless

ya think they would have a production date or vin way to match you up

god knows any one who wants your spare would have it without the key LOL

my GM truck was a tad smarter it used a matching door key spare tire access port locking cover

I have the whole wench assembly with the lock and from my 01 in the garage. My 05 didn't have the locking type. I thought about switching them out.

I was told they were made specifically to the VIN... I had to have mine cut off cause there was no way to order one.

how do they cut a socket LOL ?

I personally went to the dealer they came out with a set of them ( can't remember how many ?) tried them until one fit

went back inside and they either ordered one or had one I don't recall and I was on my way ,, this is a big dealer and they could not just look it up by VIN otherwise I am certain they would have V.S spending 15 minutes in the parking lot ..
