So my question is. What gears should we put in the truck?

-8" lift
-24's with 38's

IMO, the 4.56's will be too steep for any type of highway driving. 4.30's and 37's will put you back close to OEM rpm's (I'm about 200 rpms higher at 70 mph). With 38's, you should be even closer.

I had 4.56's in my regular cab with a 64/73 and 190/100's. I've done it, it was awesome, it was the perfect match with my 38's. Just do it! You wont regret it. TRUST ME

Speed limit on a lot of FL highways is 70 mph. Which means you have to run 75-80 mph and stay to the right.

Our tastes / preferences are different, which doesn't mean bad. I know I feel like my motor is spinning pretty damn fast at 80 mph and couldn't imagine having 4.56's in there.

Heck the Tow Boss has 4.30's with 33" tires. I'm thinking of going to 4.30's with my 35.5" so for me I'd probably want to have 4.56's with 38's. That's just me and my driving style. I hate a lugging motor.

True, true. But a lot of the non-Tow Boss trucks (250's and 350's) came from Ford with 34" tires and 3.73's. :D

My truck stock with 4.30s (TowBoss) turns at 2,000RPMs at 60 (245/75R17's). Truck will haul with zero concerns, and I couldn't see me running a higher gearing in it. (BTW, the DRW 05'-'07 trucks, 4.10s were the standard axle ratio, with 3.73 as an option)

I think some of it is the power you are wanting to put down, and if its going to see action on the strip, I wouldn't go much lower than 4.30s (due to breakage concerns of the pinion, in a high HP/Tor application). However, I don't think you'd be unhappy with 4.56's, if you can find a strong enough set for what you are planning to use the truck for. 4.88's would probably be overkill.

Solution: Unhook from gooseneck. Go to street legal night at your local track. Make a bunch of mustang owners cry. Post results.

Back to gears, i dont have any experience with re-gearing, but i ran 37's with 3.73s and would have liked 4.10s at least. I say if it spends ALL its time hooked up to a gneck then maybe 4.56, if not then 4.30 as it will be closer to stock.

If its going to tow with 37's, I don't see the need to drop down as far as 4.56s, to much lost to mileage. 4.30s would put you well in the RPM range for towing most GNs, even if you are pushing the weight ratings.

You could always haul the trailer once with your stock gearing, just to be sure you still feel the need for a gear swap. Going to 4.10s doesn't justify the expence, and 4.56s are going to be a little much.

Stock turbo, yes. Non vgt.. Oh yeah.. Definitely not.

Anyone who says 4.56s is too much has probably never towed with 190s and a 64 on 38s..

Been there done that. Check please

I'll definitely give a nod to the guys who have towed heavy, either stock or highly modded. Thats one area where I'm extremely underqualified to offer an opinion. To date, 100% of my driving has been unloaded or pulling less than 10k lbs.

If you won't mind explaining to me why?

If its a lack in the ability of a non-VGT turbo to spool correctly under 4.30s, then perhaps the wrong turbo is being used in this application. Mileage is going to be better with 4.30s on that truck.
