Lots of good info here. Great thread OP. I run around 2000 rpm's at 70mph. I figure its got 4.10 gears since the suspension and tires are stock. Any one agree with that assumption?

SOunds right...there is a sticker on the door that will give the axle code. I don't have the link but, there is one either on here or PSN that will decode and let you know what the ratio is.

OK thanks I'll take a look. Any chance 37"s will increase my mileage by dropping high way rpm's?

Doubtful dude...That is a lot of mass to turn. I went from the stock 275 65 18 tires to the 305 55 20s and lost a 1.5-2 mpgs due to the extra width and weight. They were not any taller.

Better to match the gear to a small tire than to put a heavy tall tire in attempts to drop RPM. In the long run the big tires cost quite a bit more anyway so it should work twice as good

Yes sir. But the only reason I lift these trucks is because I run 16.5 military tires. At 200.00 a set, I'm not mad. Lol They are damn good tires for the money to.

2000rpm's at 70mph? I was turning 2100-2200rpm's in my 05 6 speed dodge that had 4.10s and stick tires.

The only way your running 4.10s or 4.30's in a SRW is if it is a gasser.
Besides the 6spd @ 2200 rpms, what was the actual physical size of the tire.
I dropped only 150-200 rpms when I went from 32 to 35's w/ my 7.3psd and 6spd 3.73 gears. That dodge had to have some really small tires, probably 31's my guess.

I honestly don't know what the gear is, just taking a guess. Tires on the Billie were 235/75/17 I'm pretty sure. I remember they were stock based off the door jam sticker.

I am not sure I would like the truck anymore if I did that..lol

I think I am coming to the conclusion that the mileage has more to do with how I drive than anything. I may try a Cold side pipe and down pipe soon though, will make it breathe a little better and reduce exhaust temps if nothing else.

I have the jetta I drive the same 70 mile round trip during the week that gets right at 40mpg driving the same speeds or more than I did in the truck. I mainly only drive the truck on the weekends or to pull the boat or the jeep. The bad thing about mods that may improve mileage is that they also increase power and it makes it hard to drive it "tenderly" HAHA

You nailed it...I think I would get better MPG with my intake manny, exhaust manny, up pipes, and the 71, but the skinny pedal is just way too damn tempting.

Yep it isn't even a true 31", it is 30.9" tall. That probably has a bit to do w/ it but the dodge did have a few more options IIRC as my dad has a 02 auto w/ 4.10 gears but he re-geared to 3.55's and picked up about 2 mpg or so.
