I got my water/meth kit installed today. Cleaned up the garage and went inside to cool off. Ended up playing with my son till his bedtime and after that just wanted a shower and dinner. I had planned on getting a 5 gallon bucket of straight meth, but work was crazy this week and I never got any. I wanted to test the system tomorrow and get my boost activation point dialed in, so I was thinking about picking up some windshield washer fluid. I figure that around GA in the summer I'll be lucky to find +20* fluid. Can I add HEET in the yellow bottle (supposedly the highest concentration of methanol @ 97%) to bring my % of meth to water up?

What do you guys think? I plan on getting a 5 gallon bucket of Methanol next week, just want something to hold me over for now. Thanks.

You can't just get the blue windshield washer fluid down there this time of year? My buddy swears by the walmart brand stuff for his system. Says it seems to have the best improvement. All I know is you want to get the mixture right or you will have problems if you run to high of a concentration. I believe windshield washer fluid (the blue stuff) is 30% but I also know that some brands have lower percentage then others so thats why my buddy seemed to like the walmart stuff the most.

Typically your timing is controlled by SOI commanded from the computer. This time of injection in crank angle is precisely mapped for changing conditions. Injecting a fuel (methanol) into the intake track will alter the SOI. Once the valve begins to open and air/ methanol enters the intake the SOI will be now determined by heat/pressure to start the burn before the computer commands the injectors to open. This analogy shows how the timing is advancing but you have no control of where in crank angle degree's it's occurring.

Using a small amount of methanol will help in cooling and not be enough to ignite prematurely. This will also effect the time your atomized diesel completes the burn which will alter your timing based on peak of expansion but it will always start at the commanded point as the injectors open.

I use winter blend windshield washer fluid. It works awesome. I've been using it for roughly 6 years with no issues.

I buy 6 gallons of methanol for $5.25 a gallon and mix it with distilled and an anti rust agent. I usually do a 60meth/40distilled mix

Well I appreciate all the responces. My son and I went out this morning on a mission to find -20* windshield washer fluid. To our dismay we found that the state of GA has banned the sale of winter blend washer fluid. You can buy +20* fluid and thats it. WTF!?!?! I asked why and was informed that the high alcohol content was too temping for some backwoods azz rednecks not to drink. I did buy 2 gallons of +20* and mixed in 6 of the yellow 12floz. bottles of HEET. That stuff is nearly 98% methanol. That means for $20 I have 2.5 gallons of approx 30% meth/ 70% water mixture to play with. I'll be visiting Pro Boat in Woodstock next week for a 5 gallon bucket of meth to mix with distilled water. Oh well, I did get to run the system and so far I'm impressed with the drop in EGT's and the extra low end grunt when the system engages at 10psi.

I find 10 too low. I run MPg nozzle from 4-12 psi and power from 15- 26 psi.

I don't run the biggest nozzle though. just the little and the med one on 2nd stage.

Yeah i've found anything 13psi and below it'll start to pop and break up and over quench. That's why i start the injection point at 15psi and full at 30psi. I run two nozzles...a 225ml/min nozzle and a 625ml/min nozzle.

You run that setup all the time or only when you tow?

all the time...i don't tow. I use it when i get on it hard or when i go up steep grades. I want some more end user adjustability so i'm gonna replace my stage II controller with the stage III controller.

The 10psi will be increased. I'm thinking around 15psi. Also my system isn't progressive so its on or off. I running the 2 smallest nozzles in my kit and they are 441ml/min and 630ml/min. I think I'll order on more small nozzle and replace the 630ml/min. I think later on I will add a progressive controller as well.
