Modifying stock low pressure turbine housing

I have my stock turbos out for rebuild and upgrades. Has anyone seen the inlet side to the low pressure turbo? It has 4 fins cast in..I'm guessing to straighten out the exhaust flow. But honestly looks like a restriction and I don't see any other turbos using this and when you do custom compound turbos none of these turbos use it.

Thinking about grinding them out to get the blockage out of the way. Any thoughts?

Sorry never saw the reply. So what gains are to keeping it? Cant see why they added that to try to straighten exhaust flow? Seems to be more of an obstruction. Must be some how related to emissions when things dont make sense lol
