So I picked up this motor from a couple of hill billies for 800 bucks. of course they said it ran perfect when pulled with no issues. still wasnt surprised to find issues when pulling it apart.

My plans for the motor are to do a mildish build. I can not justify 3400 bucks for billet rods, so I cant go too nuts unless convinced otherwise. What are peoples opinions/experiences on cams? Would prefer to do a rather small cam where I dont have to mess with clearance issues. thumper pump perhaps? 225/75s and a compound set up of some sort, maybe a 62/78 or somewhere around there is the plan for right now. intake mani from odawg, maybe a oil filter relocation. I also want to make this look nice like that guy with the green motor, forget his name haha.

I will have this down to the block and paint it up all nice, anything fancy I should do to the bottom end while its this far, or just build it with oem stuff?

How are carillo rods for the 6.0? Not that costly but I have not heard good or bad about them. o-ring the heads or the block? I was thinking about freshening up my engine and this is sorta what I was debating a couple days ago. The stud only heads are keeping me from compounds as of right now. Like I said in your other thread. I wish I had a bare block to build up. I am still jealous.

I don't think I'm going to oring the heads yet. I'm not really convinced on that...yet. I will probs do a set of h11s or just the standard arps. Other options on that?

If you're building a motor on a budget I would leave everything else stock and put a set of hypermax rods in it. Why would you not put rods in it at this point? Lol

Because I'm a tight wad haha. I'll keep thinking and try and get a list/budget going. Only reason I want to change cams is because of the potential lifter failures due to the uhh, sharp I guess you would say, lift. I have no idea how common it is, but I wouldn't want that to happen.

What's the most affordable set of rods? I would hate to add an unwanted inspection hole to the side of a nice block haha.

That's what I'm saying if your ballin' on a budget at least get rods and skip the other stuff. My 06 has rcd rods and everything else 100% stock on the bottom end. Just has springs and push rods up top. And I would trust it at over 1000 if I was there.

Hypermax rods are going to be the less expensive option

You guys are a bunch of bad influences haha. Would RCD push rods and valve springs be recommend or can I skimp on that for the time being and get those really fancy rods.

Valid point. Now with the heads, they look to be in decent shape, very light damage from the injector tip. Should I just get new ford heads? I can get both complete heads with gaskets for 1800 bucks. Figure I would have at least 1200-1500 into the current heads. Standard arps? I don't see why people are having issues if it's done correctly. I don't really want to oring the heads.

Airfish automotive has some great deals on some decked and tested heads, I would see what he could do for you cause chances are those ford heads will need to be decked anyway.

I trust the ford heads. Got a new set on my truck right now. Only 20k on them but don't think they will have issues. I would probably just see if they need to be resurfaced. I actually didn't resurface the heads that I have on my truck now.
