Well it's time for a new clutch my original is slipping pretty bad. My mods are in my sig I likely have a little under 400hp or so. My question is what brand south bend or valair or ect.. Also should I get one rated for 500hp just to be safe? I likely will never reach that Hp although I will probably upgrade my turbo in the future.

I really like my southbend. I have the 1944-60K. Rated to 425 I think.

Smooth and easy pedal. Regularly tow around 10K and it has been holding up great.

I'll have to double check my part numbers, but I have a southbend clutch rated for 450hp and I hate it. It chatters and grabs, I find it very like a lightswitch. Definitely a pain in the butt trying to manouver my 5th wheel in tight spaces. My next clutch will be a valair and see if they're any better.

Based on some research I did a couple years ago, I think this is the one I was I'll be going with when the times comes. 1944-60FEK. It is organic on one side and feramic on the other side. I think the full feramic is significantly more "grabby". I'm interested to see what itwiw's part number is. I suspect it is the full feramic, but could be wrong.

*Edit*

Keep in mind the hp ratings are flywheel, so you need to add back in the 15 to 20% driveline loss if you know how much max whp your truck is making. This should be the perfect clutch for a 350 whp tow truck.

Won't let me edit my previous message, my clutch is 475HP SBC1944-6OFEK 7.3L 6sp which is the one I think you're looking at ja cain. I'm just not happy with it. On the upside, my wife hates driving it so bad since I replaced the stocker she won't drive the truck anymore.

I just purchased a spec clutch last night for my 4bt expedition. I contacted south bend clutch(1.5hrs from my house) and I wasn't impressed with what they could offer me. Spec builds clutches for a broad range of vehicles and with many different power ratings. I purchased an overkill clutch kit for my needs but hope to never have to replace it for a long long time. Might want to look at spec clutches.

Giddy up!!

Organic, full face, dual disc, 3200# pressure plate. It'll have a lighter pedal than any single disc, and you'll never slip it at 400ish hp.

How much do those dual disks run? I don't want to cheap out by any means but also don't want to spend a ton

And I've heard both good and bad things about the south bends they seem to be what most people go with though.

I spent about 800$. Had the flywheel surfaced, on top of that, if I remember correctly. Plus a throw out bearing, couple other odds and ends.

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of. I guess I may have to look into one of those dd organics.

Neither brand, sorry. If you want indepth, we'd have to talk personally.

Yup.
Ahhh....secret squirrel chit. Lol! I'll pm you sometime so I can get the number to your bat phone.

In all seriousness, I like the idea of running something different. Kind of like Shannon is doing with his 4bt. I also really respect your opinion, because I know you really work your trucks.
