You have to a good job of blasting it, you may be better off getting them powder coated

Not trying to de-rail, but is it possible to paint over chrome bumpers. I have a white 08 Superduty and I have been wanting to do the same thing. If so, what is the best way to go about preparing the chrome? Sorry for the de-rail.

yes it's possible. i did it on my rear bumper. as long as it's prepped right, it'll work fine. problem is, if a rock hits it, it can flake a much bigger piece. that's why i swapped out a paintable steel xl front and left the chrome one in the back to get painted. less likely to get rock chips back there.

I never sand blasted mine on my 2000, i sanded them down sprayed adhesion promoter and painted them, both front and rears
