from the inside, opens easy from the outside,
just found this out today.

Isn't there a cable inside there that goes from the handle to the mechanism?

From the outside, it opens easily, from the inside, it feels like something is going to break in between the inside handle and the mechanism.

I think there is a cable in there like on the drivers side. I would pull off the door panel and check out the mounting surface.

Mine was giving me problems a few years ago but I was 800 miles from my tool box. I just took a can of WD40 and placed the straw up into the door assembly through the nylon feathers where the inside door handle is. I then sprayed the dickens out of it and it has worked fine ever since.

One of these days if I ever remember I'll have to pull the panel off and see just what happened.

Pull your door panel and check the metal around the mounting area, prone to cracking and causing flex making it hard to open the door.

x3-- Just fixed the FILs 97 for same thing on the drivers side. Needed to replace the whole door handle assembly as it was breaking where its attached to the door.
