I just bought a 06 King Ranch f250 with 100,000 on it. I had a mechanic check it out and he told me that the truck was good but had a small leak at the rear pinion seal. I said ok and bought the truck. As I was putting gas I decided to check out the small leak. Well I was shocked. There was oil caked every where. Took it home and changed the seal when I removed the plug to check the level it was empty. So I removed the cover and this is what I found.

I would really appreciate if someone can explain the markings and give me some recommendations. When I replaced the seal I counted the threads on the pinion it so I could replace it in the same way. Can u tell if the markings are recent? Did I catch it in time and can I just fill and go on or do I need to replace every think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
