All, how difficult would it be to pull the down pipe and remove the up pipe section in order to weld a plate in there to block of the egr cooler as a band aide till I get an oil cooler and egr delete. Reason being, Friday the 13th struck the 6 oh earlier and I'm assuming the egr valve failed causing the coolant to boil (The coolant level in the degas was higher than in previous days). Luckily I only drove about 5 miles home from work and noticed the issue.

There is an exhaust shop I can take the up pipe to in town and have a plate welded in. Really dont want to pull the turbo till next weekend when I head home where all my tools are and I have an oil cooler to install.

turbo will have to come out along with the ypipe. there are two bolts on the top of the uppipe behind and below the turbo that attach the uppipe to the ypipe. it would very difficult to do it with the turbo in...

Friggin A, sounds about right. I'll drive it tomorrow and see how it does. Hopefully it was a fluke and will give me another 250 miles and I'll delete it next weekend. I did notice my a/c wasn't as cool when I was sitting in traffic today, seemed odd but didn't pop any codes (unless it's a soft code)

It's doable without removing the turbo. I've removed the uppipe 3-4 and I have never removed my turbo or y-pipes. My truck is lifted 5" so it makes it somewhat easier. Remove the downpipe and play with different extension lengths to get to the bolts. I can get to the two top bolts from behind the turbo once the uppipe is removed. Don't remember which one but one of the bolts is easier to remove from the driverside. You have to reach your hand up over the top of the transmission, your forearms will get scuffed up. I havn't had to do this in a couple of years but I can have it replaced in less than two hours.
