Replaced E4OD, now reverse "slipping"???

So I replaced my old junk E4OD with a mildly built unit (steel planetaries, new sonnax valves, triple disc.) All forward gears are fine, shifts feel great, tc locks wonderfully. Also threw a trucool behind the bumper with all new 3/8" ss braided lines.

The problem is reverse. When the truck is put in reverse and your foot is off the brake, it pretty much doesn't roll back on its own. If you give it throttle, the rpms climb with no movement for a second, then it gradually begins to catch the gear and roll backward, then it shudders for a second (maybe grinding?) and then feels normal.

So I'm not sure where to start. Suggestions? Ideas?
