You got stupid lucky and had both the crank and the cam 180 out haha.

180 out from the factory?

If you marked it and put it back exactly like it was your fine. I don't think both were 180 out, i could be wrong but if you had rotated the engine over a full rev it would have lined up like it's supposed to. You didn't do it the correct way but ended up with the correct results. I don't have the tool but I mark the adapter above the timing mark and go off that. If not it's easy to have it 1 tooth off.
