Solid lifter for clearance checks

How have you modified a lifter for checking piston to valve clearance?
Or can we buy a solid lifter for the 7.3?
Purchasing colt stg 2 and before re-assembly I will need to check this measurement.
Block will most likely be surfaced along with the head with possible valve seat work.

I’ve done it with a 6.0 lifter which is the same as a 7.3 lifter. I’ll get you the measurements on the rod I put inside the lifter tomorrow.

Here’s what you’ll have when you take the lifter apart.

Here’s what you need to make it solid.
I used a bolt that I had, but a 3/8” rod 1.422” long works well also.
I squared the ends in a vise on my surface grinder. It is important that the ends are square so that the top plate doesn’t try to cock sideways.
