Heading outta state tomorrow taking my car racing. The car and trailer weight just under 5000lbs total. I've never pulled before, so this might be a dumb question but does tow mode need to be on? It's a bonestock 2004 F-250 6.0 powerstroke.

No, you wont need it. But, i like to use it going down hill, as it will down shift early and act like a brake once you tap the brakes, saves on brake pads. Hell i use it unloaded when going down hill sometimes just for that reason.

Use tow/haul when you like how it's working, and turn it off when you don't. It never HAS to be on, it's there to make the truck easier to drive.
