The sender is in the driver's side of the transmission in the case. The ambient temp was 110-115

Your idea of removing the license plate holder might be worth it given where you live. I would still take to heart what I qouted from Mark Craig.

I know for a fact that continued operation at 230 is bad. That's with the temp sensor in the side port
On my way to BTS, it was running 120 over ambient in 110 weather. The fluid that was brand new a month ago (200-300 miles before the trip) was completely burnt and almost black. When I told Brian what it had been running and he saw the inside of the transmission, he was amazed I had made it.

Do you think that the fluid burnt because of the 230 temps or because the trans was slipping and burning the fluid in between the clutches?

LOL
Both, actually. It didn't that help my oil to water cooler was almost completely plugged. At 233449.4 miles I think it was due for a rebuild.
