Transmission failure during flush

Just stopped by the shop and talked to the mechanic doing the repairs. His conclusion is that "the pump overheated during the flush". The pump and torque converter were fried. He said inside of transmission looked perfect.

And the only way that's going to happen is if the pump ran dry for a while. They ran it out of fluid.

Pretty much. Oh well. S**t happens. Just glad they took care of it.

I'll throw out a possible scenario,
These transmissions do not flow fluid through the cooler lines till it reaches a specific temperature, so what the mechanic may have done is put it in gear and brake-torqued the truck to help heat the fluid up so it would start flowing
and he got it way too hot.
It's just a idea because I know this is one way to deal with the thermostatic control.

I've seen what happens to a transmission that is brake torqued until it fails. The pump was fine. The torque converter was destroyed.
