took a closer look at the had today and it ended up to be cracked anyway. but there is the thing Its .015 thinner than another already surfaced head. yikes

What's the overall thickness of that head though? It would be interesting to see the spring rate differences between that one valve spring and the others.

Also, just thinking out loud here... I seem to recall the tolerance for valve lengths being quite large, somewhere in like the .040" range (I don't have specs in front of me here) but perhaps that one valve was on the ragged edge of that tolerance, and coupled with the head being decked too much, perhaps it's just a coincidence??? I'd like to know the head thickness, and the valve stem lengths...

Check the guide, as well as the valve stem.

Measure the guide and make sure it's not out of round, tapered, or otherwise messed up.
