I know this isn't nearly like the builds guys have going on with there trucks but I figured I would what I did with an old weatherguard tool box. I got this box for free, it had no keys, a cut in the front by the cab side, but the front of the bed covers it, a couple of bolt holes facing the tail gate some scratches, and the lid seal was shot. But, the box was straight and closed del

I tired just polishing the box, but it still looked like crap. So I had to strip off all the clear coat that is on weatherguard boxes then polish it. I fixed the cut in the front by putting a piece of duct tap on it since it will never been seen and will keep the water out lol. To fix the bolt holes I put in some stainless carriage bolts and cut off the excess threads in the box. I also put in weatherguard's new locks, and used a home improvement store window seal for the lid seal. So all together I have about $150 (750ish new) into a weatherguard box that looks really close to new, and seals well.

This is just after I started, you can see the box is in pretty rough shape

Those boxes would be so much better if they didn't put that stupid clear coat on them. I have seen so many that looked absolutely terrible from it dulling and oxidizing. I got a weatherguard from a guy and stripped it and polished it some, but yours turned out way better, must have way more patience than I do. lol. Looks good though.

nothing beats a Weatherguard box. Only toolbox worth the trouble in my opinion.

They are high dollar, so that box is probably around 700 new Id guess.

bought one two falls ago. Black, with d rings, single lid. $800. Got two on my worktruck. The.clear is NOT a bad idea. It just get bad after a while. My workboxes are ten+ years old. Closer to fifteen and don't look bad. Still shiny.

Thanks guys, yeah that one had a pretty rough life. They did have other ones there with the bottoms of them blown out and all bent to hell though LOL
It was from a grading company and they throw everything in them like D rings made for pulling out stuck dozers etc etc

What stripper did you use on that? I need to do mine, looks like hell because of the clear coat...

I THINK the brand was kleen strip or something like that, I got it at walmart. I also used some of the same brand in a spray can for most of it. Made the work much quicker. There is a picture of the can in one of the pictures.

My truck had a Weatherguard box when I bought it. I had no use for a bed box so I sold it. $125 on craigslist. I know it was worth a lot more, but it was just taking up space.

I will admit if I ever needed a truck box, Weatherguard would get my love. Very high quality.

Polished up really nice BTW!!
