What injector to match a 6.7

Yes sir. The truck pulled decent as long as the rpm was over 2k with that setup. When I bought a 35' toy hauler and brought it on long trips with the family the noise in the cab being locked out of od was horrible. You could be in od as long as you were going 75+. The problem was the 55mph 2 lanes where you were always under the turbo and it was hot and smokey. I was always cleaning soot off the side of the trailer. Mato tried a ton of different tunes and got it as close as it was going to get. I even tried a tow tune from no limit and it was worse. Matt suggested going to an 80% nozzle so I bought the new injectors and ran them with a 38r. I went to bellowed up pipes at the same time on the 38r to eliminate any chance of leakage. The new injectors quieted down the crunchy and idle haze but still didn't help it tow much better under 2k. I decided to say heck with it and switched over to t4 with the 366sxe that Matt Mier suggested...literally a whole new truck instantly. I couldn't ask any more from it now. Like I said only wish I would of done it sooner

Yeah the sxe line is impressive. I love mine. IMO it's doable to make a 7.3 to tow with a 6.7 but the cost to do so is to high. But to each there own

even if the truck got to the stage where it has the same power as a bone stock six seven, it will still ride like a log wagon and be a loud, smelly truck. Nevermind safety features, bigger brakes, tow ratings etc

I've finally got my sd set up to hang with the 6.7's. It was a lot less than many think, but I work on my own stuff, build as much as I can myself. It was a pain to get egts and smoke to a point I'm happy with, but I can now pull away from my dads '11 6.7 when were loaded with the horse trailers. (Yes both are very close to the same weight). However it is soooo nice to hop in his truck and enjoy the peace and quiet and his rides so much better as well.

I can completely agree with Z_racing, the 38R to 366sxe transition has been an incredible one. My 38R was stock, and both with a 1.0 housing. With the 38R, I've never been able to burn the tires from a rolling start (6 speed, clutch engaged, not slipped) with the same tunes and a turbo swap it will now if you try. It lights quick, and above 1800 if you mat it, pegs 40 psi almost instantly. I need a new boost gauge because I only bought a 40. Never thought I'd make more than that. The truck flat out pulls now. And it's so quiet. I made the t4 work with my S&B so it's probably quieter than most. Its a real pleasure to drive again!

Edit: I also was able to achieve my best fuel mileage since the injectors of 17mpg. And there was still a little playing and passing. With the 38R the best idea gotten was 16.25.

It's super top secret man sorry. Lol. It's just 200/30's, adrenaline, reg return, 38r truck is also a 6 speed. It's tuned by PHP and ********. Tunes are very different between the two people both have their benefits and drawbacks.

What tune where you using when towing the horse trailer? I really like my PHP Street Muscle tune compared to Matt's equivalent. It is a little smokey, but a lot of that is probably related to failure to maintain requested icp and up-pipe leaks.

*edit*

That's awesome you were able to best his truck with just a 30% over nozzle. For some reason I thought you had an 80% and was mistaken.

I'll have to look and see what tune it is that I run. Matts tunes are super clean and cool but there is just NO fuel in them below 2000 rpm which makes it hard to tow with, without running it out to 3000 before a shift. I've learned how to drive the PHP tune with minimal smoke and egt issues.

Running a similar setup, last couple of times i raced 6.7's at the drag strip I trounced them. I don't think it takes that much to match the 6.7 in terms of straight line performance, other measures would be much more difficult.

Your right. My 38r 250/100 setup would smoke my father in laws 14 in a drag race, it's just that it got its butt kicked that much the other way when it came to towing a big trailer up a 2 mile long grade. With the sxe that's not the case anymore. 20 psi sustained at 1800rpm without egt problems is easy now:thumbup::thumbup:

I love towing with my 01 7.3. I've never pulled with s 6.7 but I'd say it would have to be slot more comfortable. I just made it back 2 days ago from Washington State to Near Atlanta GA. It towed great, egt's never over 850. Pulled my 35'pull behind @12k loaded anywhere I wanted, even up to Mount Rushmore, lol! If I'd known it was that steep I wouldn't have went but hey pushed it 55 mph through the turns and then coasted back down. Glad I did it but not again. I don't care what I'm driving.

Don't ever drive a 6.7 then. It was that, that made me rethink my whole setup. Remember when someone tells you their truck is dialed they only know the best they've ever drivin. When I here poeple talk about how their tuner has some how made a 38r with monster injectors great I just laugh now. Can you make it work - yes. Is it great - hell no lol

I'm still on stock injectors and I don't have a chip or a tuner. What I did different on this pull than the first one going out there was I just put it in OD and set the cruise at whatever speed the trailer was comfortable, mostly @ 68 mph through the west and Midwest cause of the wind. It would change gears when it needed to up @3k and back to 25-2600rpm's and stay steady till topped the hill and back to OD. All my temps stayed steady and cool and I would pull for 200 miles plus at a time. Seemed the harder it ran the better it ran. Yes I suppose the 6.7's are better but I guess I don't need better.

I suppose with being said,I'm sure here in the near future I'll have to replace my injectors. My uppipes are looking pretty bad to. My truck has 245k mikes on it and the turbo compressor wheel is chewed up a little bit. There's no play in it and and it does an excellent job keeping egt's down but I do see a t4 setup coming in my near future. I'll go ahead then and replace the hpop with one better suited for some hybrid injectors for when I do replace them, that way i won't have to spend it all at once. Along with a good tuner and custom tunes from one of the vendors. I suppose if I don't like it I'm sure it won't be hard to get rid of and I'll just go get a 12-16 model 6.7. I've done some research on these and drove a couple, just haven't towed with one. I would opt for a 12-14 and d....... it with s tuner and go with a newer turbo. I've mentioned this before but will say it again. If you could bolt up a 5 speed auto or even a 6 speed torque shift to these 7.3's and make it work,it would be a bad a€#

I agree. I think the 5r even in the six liters are way better for towning then our 4r's. if someone could come up with a kit to make a 5 or six speed work in our 7.3's they would be an even better work horse. I went with a bts and it helped but with v8 configured engine I think a 5 speed would be way way better

V8 configuration has nothing to do with it, more gears are always better.
there is no advantage to an inline
