White smoke

But at the same time unplugging 6 and 8 did nothing to the idle at all? You dropped tech two cylinders and it idled exactly the same? But it still stopped the white smoke?

That is weird for sure.

To not effect idle I would think they would not be firing at all but if they are not firing at all how are they causing white smoke.

I can not figure what would cause and allow for all of that to be happening in concert.

Thanks Tom on the Dorman VCG info.

No compression in those two holes? Injectors are working, but not enough compression to fire. Unplug the injectors and no more fuel. How is you crankcase pressure. Pop you oil fill cap off and check it out.

Dave,

What is the issue with the Dorman VC gaskets?

poorly shielded wires, allowing stray signals to actually fire injectors out of time...ie...firing the the wrong injector at the wrong time...

seen it here in our shop, with injs out of time, and have also talked to a couple of guys that actually lost engines due to the Dormans...one guys truck...two engines...

truck went in (to another shop) for UVC repair...shop used Dormans...made it 3 miles down the road before it spit out a rod..

installed another engine...3 miles down the road...and another rod out the block...

called us, and we helped him scope out the FDCS signals and figured it out...

another engine...Motorcraft wiring....no problems.

bad bad chit.

not saying ALL Dorman uvc/uvc gsksts are 'bad'...but no effing way are we ever using them again...

to the OP-

I had a similar issue on my 2000 model...back in 01/02...

had a chaffed wire in the 42pin connector...the 10mm bolt that pulls the harnesses together had pinched a wire...and had the exact same symptoms as this...exact same cylinders actually...6&8

Took that long to chaff the wire in.

Good info Golfer. NO DORMAN I will not remember just valve cover gaskets, so simply NO DORMAN.

It might be possible the solenoids got shorted out with bad wiring to them even on the new injectors? Try to ohm them out and compare to the rest of them.

Thank you Dave!!!!

I had no idea this kind of thing was happening. I long ago took your advice when you use to drop hint after hint in posts about using only genuine ford motorcraft parts espeically for certain things. Since then I bite the bullet and pay the premuim even with a fleet discount and get my stuff directly from Ford.

On that list:

IPR Valve
ICP Sensor
Glow Plugs
UVC Wiring Harness

Basically for me if it deals with the electronics I will likely be going OEM. Way way to much drama chasing your tail all to try and save a bit of cash on some part that was a knock off made in China. No thank you.

Make sure you add CPS to that list. How many times have we heard of parts store CPS being bad out of the box.

Back in the good ole' days (flat head 6's, old school SBC's old wedge MOPAR engines) Dorman was a good manufacturer of aftermarket stock parts. I started noticing about ten years ago that their quality had hit bottom. Not sure what the cause, however I do know the results. I even took the old dorman sticker off my tool box.

Same thing happened with Moog. All it took was a merger of a corp and their products are basically no better than standard stuff.

I always get my CPS from Ford. Never even thought to get them from anyone else given the cost. The only thing I can think of that Ford sells at fair market value. LOL
