I was just recently told that you need to modify the floor of a non zf6 truck to accept the trans, is this true? Looking to get rid of my zf in a trade with a buddy but he doesn't want to modify the floor of his truck. I figured there would just be a removable plate in the floor for the shifter. Anyone with experience dealt with this?

To install a zf in place of a 4r, you'll need the complete transmission hump, not just the tin cover plate. The manual transmission hump is about two inches taller than the auto hump.
