Not likely. The Cummins was previously using the CP3 in the same design before switching to the CP4. Makes it easier to switch back to the CP3 as there is already room for it. Did you check the MAP sensor on the top of the engine? I'm curious if the truck isn't sure about the air it has so it is "hunting" a bit with trying to match fuel. The MAP sensor can clog with soot and PCV oil. Easy enough to clean with electronic cleaner and a soft brush. Just don't poke into... -

16 exhaust issue?
In general, yes. May depend on how long it's been leaking as to how obvious the soot is. Also might be hard to see being in the valley of the engine up against the firewall. Best of luck to ya!- 6.7Bison

Likely an exhaust leak. The rear manifold studs are known to break. The manifold can then separate from the gasket and produce a squealing noise under higher exhaust pressure similar to what I think you are trying to describe. Can't directly answer your question, but my '11 CCSB 6.7 gets 18-19 mpg highway. I would think the 10 speed and aluminum body should put you further ahead yet. I like this kind of format for the engines. I will agree the 6.7 gets a little murky but most engine things can apply on all 6.7s.
