    Was the gearing changed out in the 96? The factory options were 3:55 and 4:10. The difference in gearing could be all that there is to feel a good difference.

    Usually when the switch fails it is because of junk that has gotten into the fuel line from the plastic foot in the tank. Some have taken the valve apart and cleaned it and put it back in and are good to go.

    It might help if we knew what kind of set up you have. On the rear end it doesn't need to be from a diesel truck just get the year range and it will be fine. The only real differences will be limited slip and the gearing.

    I think that I would actually find a good used rear end and swap them out. But if you are set on trying to fix it the first thing that I would do is to drop the drive line and get the rear end up in the air on some jack stands. Then I would pull one axle and see if things will turn, if not...

    No there isn't. For a 22 year old truck your best source would be a junk yard. There are some vendors out there that have specific wiring harnesses and you can replace the connectors but not for the whole truck. Why do you want to do a whole harness change out?

    That is a dual Super Duty tensioner. It is a lot better than the stock one. Someone along the line of the life of your truck put the dual one on and threw the single one into the trash.

    The harness under the dash has nothing to do with no power in the under hood power distribution box. What solenoid on the firewall? Or are you talking about the fender mounted on above the passenger side wheel well?

    It is just a matter of testing and testing some more. The wire comes off of the fender mounted solenoid and goes to the power distribution box. If there is no power at the power distribution box then there is a problem between the two points.

    There should be two 12ga yellow wires coming off of the fender mounted solenoid and headed down. Just past the connection you should see a label on them that says 12ga fusable link. These are what feed the power distribution box under the hood.

    Time to get a volt/ohm meter out and start testing connections. Perhaps you blew the fuseable link that feeds the under hood fuse box.

    Take him out to a large parking lot and have him follow you around. Hit the brakes a few time to simulate bumps. It should happen sooner or later. Do you notice it more with right or left turns? Which ever one does it more that is the way that I would turn as he watches.

    Does it happen at slow speeds? If so have someone watch the front end as you turn and see if they can see anything moving.

    You can ohm out the injectors just like the glow plugs with zero problems. That is also a way to test the injector wiring from the IDM plug to see if you have a problem.

    First off and don't take this wrong but do you know how to use a ohm meter? You don't want to test volts but ohms when testing the glow plugs.

    With the smoke I am still thinking glow plugs or the relay. Have you tried just shorting the large lugs of the relay with a pair of pliers or jumper cables for about 30 seconds before trying to start?

    You are going to have to trouble shoot it when it is happening. Perhaps the HPOP reservoir is draining off some. Being 1 1/2 quarts low could be part of the problem, but if you are getting smoke out of the tailpipe then it sounds like it is getting fuel and the injectors are working. I also...
