7.3 Headgasket questions
I'm not reading anything yet to suggest the motor should come out. You could do all basic tests in the truck at this point. As soon as the brake pedal got hard from no vacuum and no steering assist I'm surprised they didn't stop running it... is this the obs or sd? (Edit) -
fluidamper fan spacer issue
Have you checked alignment of the pulleys ? 5/16 key stock works good. For grins verify belt routing again. It's slipping on an accessory that takes more power to turn. I'd be leaning to the coincidence something failing.- mandkole

7.3 300/200s billet 6X6 S471 need opinions
How much back pressure at 60? That seems a little high. I've got 50-60k mi on my 42r and it's done it all. I've seen 48-50# and runs good except laggy when towing heavy. Still enjoy hearing it spin down for a minute or so after I shut the truck off. Lol Lots of newer borgs out now, but not...- mandkole

Good deal-- I've got a spare sensor w oil in the plug that never gave trouble. These things can't be explained now and then. -

Check the harness for the sensor as well. Normally the 1280 only comes up if the plug has been disconnected, so there could be a poor connection. Can you watch ICP to see if it wants to default at 725? -
Chasing harness/idm/injector related issues
Pull the solenoid off and check to see if the armature plate is loose on the poppet. Loose armature will rattle but the inj doesn't move. You might need the special torx bit (the Nintendo tool) for the screws. -

This was good. As we move forward with maintaining these old trucks, the real battle will become the electrical troubleshooting. We need a home for all of these types of threads/posts in the library-- especially those with good outcomes. -

What fluid and how much for d60?
Not aware that many stock fronts are lsd. A decent 80-90 synth would be fine-- isn't there a filler plug that you fill to?- mandkole

Im not convinced it has to be a JW or a BTS. A good shop that is keeping up with transmission technology today and cares about their customers, can do a good build for you. We saw enough stuff during my BTS repair to know that they are not doing anything special in a 500hp build except using...- mandkole

^^yep, check harness. If no issues look at swapping a couple injs to see if the issue follows. Could be a bad injector. Swamps could test the idm. -

^^^ good suggestion on the fuel adapters-- but if it's not down on power, fuel flow is likely ok. Brand new injectors? Not remans? Good buzz test? All OEM sensors, harnesses? Not replacing #8 is odd.. does idle quality change from cold to hot? May want to consider swapping one inj with... -
96 mod setups?
At 500K, this motor has its best days behind it. While injectors are easy to stab in , x2 on doing the basic health checks. On the other hand, just send it... :thumbsup: Psdusers list is fine, Id add a good clutch to that also.- mandkole

Plenty of guys have just installed converters, a VB and perhaps a Sonnax valve in used trans with decent results. If the trans wasn't used hard and well maintained up to that point, its possible. The frequent full throttle/heavy load upshifts and poor TCC control are the killer, but its not...- mandkole

No start...has me stumped
Did you leave the chip unplugged? I find that mine is far more sensitive to low voltage with the chip plugged in than not. I'd leave it unplugged. Agree that it should fire. I'd also plug it in to rule out any glow plug issues. A small 10a charger won't properly charge two good batts... -

Yep-- Been there, seen that done on a 2500 Dodge 2wd that was owned by the drum corps I volunteered with. It was a hot mess... ran at 21K# (6K on rear axle) with a 32' tag all the time. We killed two tires and a rear end during a 12K miles summer tour. They just put another used rear end...
