    Pulling a ZF6

I must have been delirious when I thought this...went too long without drinking water. Problem was resolved.

    Pulling a ZF6

This althread idea was genius! The tranny went back in easier than it came out! Have an issue with the rear driveshaft connection to the rear of the transfer case. The transfer case flange does not appear to be threaded! What was holding the driveshaft to it?! Does not appear to have been the...

    Yet another Oil leak

I have the exact same situation. Arisley just told me to put a light film of silicone on the o-rings the next time I replace them.

Is my rear main seal bad?

No oil in the valley. Cleaned up all the issues in the valley last year. However, I do still get a small amout of oil from the turbo pedistal. For some reason I can't get the oil to stop leaking from there

Is my rear main seal bad?

It has been a few drips everytime it is parked but the bell housing was full of oil. It was coming out of all the holes in the bell housing and going all over stuff under the truck while driving. I was adding .5qt to 1qt every week or two it seemed like.

    Pulling a ZF6

The dye would have been a good idea. I will eventually be pulling the engine but I am not going to at this time. I am going to try and shore up the rear seal of the pan until I can pull the engine. The unfortunate part of this is I bought the OTC rear main puller/installer (275) in...

    Dynatrac Ball joint questions

Dynatrac all the way. Top notch product/service/support. Just rent a ball joint/u-joint removal tool from your local auto parts store. Afterwards, have the truck aligned and you are all set! There are a lot of youtube videos that document the removal and installation process. THere is one...

Is my rear main seal bad?

Thanks! Yeah just wanted someone who might have seen an actual failed rear main to look at these pics to see something I might not. THis is my first time doing this. I think I am going to goop up the rear seal of the pan until I have the opportunity to redo the entire oil pan seal when I pull...

Is my rear main seal bad?

Well, I am not taking the engine out...yet. I was thinking about trying to put a good bead of RTV between the current bead and rear lip of the oil pan. I know there are no gaurantees if I do this but hoping it will hold until I can take the engine out.

Is my rear main seal bad?

I posted pics in the other thread I started; "Pulling a ZF6". Post #58 http://powerstrokearmy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50559&page=6 If anyone else has ever seen the elusive "bad rear main" please take a look at the pics and let me know what you think. The seal appears to be in good shape...

    Pulling a ZF6

Got the flywheel off and the pilot bearing fell out in pieces. I ended up using the chain method to hold the flywheel and it worked great. However, now I have a problem. The rear main looks ok for the most part. There are not any obvious places where the oil would have been coming out of. I am...

    Pulling a ZF6

Nah, I am replacing my rear main and when I initally tried unbolting the flywheel it would turn over the engine over rather than break the bolt loose. I think I am going with the chain suggestion posted earlier. Thanks

    Pulling a ZF6

Thank you for the suggestions guys. I will try them and see which one works best for me. I think I know whey my rear main seal is leaking; the shrapnel from the pilot bearing grenade took it out. I have not worked on the truck in about a week and I am going to Colorado on Thursday so it will...

    Locking a 7.3 flywheel

Anyone have a best way to lock the flywheel in place or know where to get a tool to do this? I know I can use an impact gun to get the bolts off but when putting the new flywheel on I need to be able to torque the bolts without turning the engine over. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or...
