I sold the truck, but the gentleman I sold it to was headed to the 7.3 adapter himself. He loves the mechanical advantage. Said it's the bulletproof option.

OK bismic and crew - IT WORKED! I hard wired the fan using bismic's instructions, and ran her all morning in some serious heat - and she never topped 190. Not even 191. Most of the time was in the 180s. I wasn't pulling a load or anything, but just driving around warming her up I hit...

Errrr - that should have said "bismic and crew" - my apologies, bismic! I'm not seeing how to edit the post, either - so it's permanent, looks like. My bad.

OK cosmic and crew: I'm going in. I have just a bit of spare time, and I need to move a buddy's truck in the next few days - so I've gotta get this thing going. Just splice in a grounded wire to that royal blue wire, flip the switch and let the clutch warm up, and she should roar to life...

OK, boys (esp bismic!) - is this the blue wire I'm after?

Topped off the degas bottle. Check. Chased down the EGR and see this: Is than an EGR ******? I see the harness hooked up. Do I need to yank the actual component to know if it is in fact an EGR ******? Can you tell from this pic?

What does defuel mean? Can't be good. How do I check temperature sensors after allowing them to cold soak? I have much to learn.... Haha

bismic - thank you for your thorough and specific comments! I really appreciate your guidance. I'll see if I can work my way down the list and hit on something that makes a difference. I'm not sure how to return to a stock tuning position, but I'm willing to give it a try if you coach me...

Darn thing is running crazy warm. This is what I was running with a cab full of kids, and nothing else. At all. Seems ridiculous warm. Wasn't even an outrageously warm day. Mid 80's.

Hey bismic - thank you! I'll give that a go. I've got some time coming up next week, so maybe I can get in there and play around with that. Let's say the fan doesn't come on - at all - even with the manual override switch. What's that mean? Time for a new fan clutch? Do I need special...

How do I do that? I'd be interested in trying it.... I'm going to swap out my coolant filter today; it's been a little while since I've swapped it out, so I'm due for a new one. Just not convinced that a plugged coolant filter could keep it from cooling. It sure won't help, but I doubt...

Do I just need a new fan/fan clutch? Could it be that simple? Can I manually make this electric fan clutch kick on? How do I test my existing setup?

So I changed the oil this afternoon, and snapped a few under hood pics. Here's what I'm working with: I know - she's dusty as can be at the moment..... But once I get the air filter put back together I'll give her a quick bath and she'll be shined up once again. Can you see anything that...

What does the mechanical fan clutch adapter do? Make it more of a mechanical fan as opposed to the electric fan? I'm interested. I'd better look into this - at least as a start.... More details on the power train itself coming up -

Could I hear it when it's actually engaged? Past fan clutches (in other gas vehicles that I've owned) sounded like a bear coming to life - you KNEW when they were engaged. I've never heard this one roar to life like that. Ever. Wondering if it's working at all.

So - I've got to start the list of exactly what's been done to the truck... I bought if from a close relative, so finding out the details shouldn't take more than a phone call or two. I'll start with that. I should have done this two years ago, but I just never got around to it. Im guessing...

When I had just started it today, I took a peek in on the fan - and it was already running. Looks electric. There goes the fan clutch thought.
